Mr. Buchan has 22 years of experience in the energy and environmental sectors as a consultant with such firms as Arthur D. Little, evaluating and commercializing new technologies in these sectors.  His experience with new technologies, which includes fuel cells, distributed generation, alternative fuels, renewable energy, and several air emission and water control technologies, has given him great insight into the direction of the energy and environmental markets and the adoption issues new technologies face.  During the last 19 years, his focus has been in sales, marketing, and business development, while managing the business activities of his consulting operation.  Over his career, Bill has developed business strategies for clients in several sectors, including the energy, environment, biotech, transportation, retail, and internet sectors.  He has helped raised money for technology commercialization of energy and environmental technology from government and private sources.  Bill was also the VP of Marketing and acting-CEO of a bio-oil venture, Sustainable Biomass Energy, and continues to be involved in start-ups today.  He is a member of the Gerson Lehrman Group Council, providing market insights regarding new energy and environmental technologies to investors.  Bill has authored over 20 publications and presentations during his career.  A licensed engineer, Bill holds a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, a Master's degree in civil/environmental engineering, and an MBA with an emphasis in entrepreneurship from the University of California at Berkeley.

Yan C. Chow, Partner

Dr. Chow has 26 years of experience as a practicing physician at Kaiser Permanente, a $28 billion dollar HMO with one of the largest distributed healthcare networks in the nation.  In addition to his clinical practice, Yan evaluates new technologies for adoption within Kaiser Permanente.  Yan also previously managed regional operational and experimental IT systems used by 30,000 providers to care for 3 million plan members fro about 10 years.  Dr. Chow was an executive committee member of a national physician organization's technology section, as well as a surveyor of healthcare organizations for the State of California.  His experience has led to deep understanding of business drivers and new technology adoption issues for large healthcare organizations in today's economic climate.  Yan also founded and advised several technology start-ups and continues to be involved in start-up ventures today.  For his start-ups, Yan played a critical role in guiding the strategic focus, securing incubator space, acquiring advisory board members, and filing patent applications.  In 2004, Yan was granted 3 U.S. patents for a unique, ultrafast network storage architecture.  He has been a commercial database developer, author, and invited speaker at industry conferences.  Dr. Chow earned his Bachelor's degree with honors from Harvard University, his Medical degree from the University of California at San Diego, and his MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, where he graduated as valedictorian.
